The 17th annual Laguna Phuket Triathlon is Asia's premier destination triathlon featuring a unique 1.8km two-stage swim, a 55km bike ride, and a 12km run through spectacular tropical scenery.
Over the past sixteen years the Phuket Triathlon has attracted some of the world's best professional triathletes, earning it the tag The Race of Legends.
More than 1,000 competitors are expected to take part in the 2010 Phuket Triathlon, with the 1996 1:52:56 time of English great Simon Lessing the record to beat for male competitors and the 2:02:33 time set by Zimbabwean-born athlete Paula Newby-Fraser, also in 1996, the challenge facing female competitors.
The event is hosted by Laguna Phuket, a collection of deluxe hotel and villas occupying 400ha, including three kilometers of beachfront, on the northwest coast of Phuket. The Laguna Phuket also hosts the Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship.
