Thailand will postpone indefinitely the opening of a new electric rail service linking the country's main international gateway, Suvarnabhumi Airport, with central Bangkok due to security concerns amid ongoing anti-government protests, Transport Minister Sophon Zaram said Thursday.
The government's Center for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation has requested that the opening of the new rail service, originally scheduled for Friday, be delayed given unstable political situation, he said.
"The delay has nothing to do with the safety system of the project... it was caused by worries related to the political unrest," Sophon told reporters.
The express service of the rail line will shuttle passengers to and from Bangkok's international airport within 15 minutes for around THB150.
