In a move that reflects confidence in Ko Samui's future as a tourist destination, the owners of luxury beach resort Baan Taling Ngam have invested a further 90 million Baht to continue upgrades to the hotel first initiated in late 2008.

The new investment will be spent over the coming months to complete a modernization programme for guest rooms, villas, public areas and guest services, Nigel Tovey, General Manager of Baan Taling Ngam, announced this week.

“While many resorts on Ko Samui are now cutting back on investment plans, we are actually heading in the opposite direction and have embarked on the next stage of a major programme designed to upgrade the hotel.

“We believe in the future of Ko Samui as an outstanding holiday destination – and we're showing this by putting our money where our mouth is,” said the veteran British hotelier.

Specific plans include:

* Construction of a 150 metre pier with facilities for dining, non motorized water sports, visiting yachts and an on site diving school.
* New in-room soft furnishings, and upgrading of all bathrooms
* New restaurant concepts
* New retail delicatessen and boutique
* In room interactive T.V.
* New fitness centre

All of the above will be completed without any disruption to guests or existing services.

The resort has already completed a 40 million baht upgrade of guest support systems, including free high speed wi-fi internet access for all guests throughout the resort, installation of the latest version of Fidelio Opera reservations system, and purchasing new golf carts for guest transportation around the resort.

Televisions are now being replaced with the latest LCD flat screens with full HD and digital surround sound.

Nearly 1.2 kilometers of wooden railings throughout the resort will have been replaced by the end of July to ensure that Baan Taling Ngam is 100% compliant with the very strict health and safety requirements of the UK and European Union.

The spa has been expanded and was recently awarded Best Spa in Thailand (Gold category).

The resort has also recently won first place in a “Best Food on The Island Contest”, judged by Thailand's celebrity Chef Khun Magdang.

Mr Tovey and his sales team are about to embark on sales trips to Australia, the United Kingdom and Ireland to reintroduce the resort to the travel trade and present the resort's new facilities to past and future guests.
