In July (26 July 2009) the country's leading sports event, the Formula One Grand Prix, takes place at the city's racetrack.
For culture lovers, there is the Budapest Sziget Festival 2009, 12th-17th August - the Best-Value Outdoor Rock Festival in Europe. No matter what music genre you like to listen to, you’ll find that appeals to your taste. Each year several internationally recognized music stars perform on 5 stages.
In August, you can join in the fun of the Budapest Parade, the official end-of-summer street party. Up to 600,000 people converge on Andrassy Avenue and march to Heroes' Square, accompanied by more than 50 floats. Stunning carnival floats cross the city from Roosevelt Square to Hero's Square at the flamboyant Budapest Parade. Thousands of revellers watch and follow the floats, in a scene reminiscent of London's Notting Hill Carnival or the old Berlin Love Parade. The parade proper ends in a massive firework display, and then the fun really begins, as clubs across the city offer post-parade parties which run long into the night!
Mobile stages are set up in Felvonulas Square and the country's top DJs and international stars perform. The club scene in the city has been transformed in the post-Communist era, with dance clubs regularly open until 4am. Interesting clubs include A38, an old Ukrainian stone-carrying ship refurbished and permanently moored in the Danube and the Bahnhof Music Club featuring talented DJs and a dance floor packed with beautiful people.
