The state tourist board of Italy has promoted the locations that feature in the new Tom Hanks film Angels and Demons, which is set in Rome.

Arguably the most famous site of all to be used in the film is Vatican City, where tourists can explore St Peter's Basilica, the world's largest church, or visit the Vatican Museums to see the Sistine Chapel.

Fans of the film can also head to Castel Sant'Angelo, a monument that houses the National Museum and boasts a collection including ancient arms, frescoes and furniture of the papal apartments.

At Piazza Navona, visitors can see sights including a church that stands as an excellent example of Roman baroque architecture and three fountains.

One of the most recognisable sights in Rome to feature in Angels and Demons is the Pantheon, a grand structure that is the burial place of artists including the painter Raphael.

The new movie sees Hanks playing the same character as in the 2006 film The Da Vinci Code, which showcased some of the most famous sights to be seen in Paris.
