Incheon City on the west coast of Korea will host the Global Fair & Festival 2009, an event aimed to share Incheon with the world. The event will run for eighty days from the 7th August to 25th October, 2009 and will consist of conferences focusing on urban development, exhibitions, and a World Culture Street expected to attract more than five million visitors.
Incheon is the international arrivals hub of Korea and is regarded as Korea's 'New Growth Engine'. In the 21st century urban issues have become increasingly important, and Incheon has created a place for global institutions, corporations, scholars, developers, policy makers and urban planners to gather and discuss important issues related to urbanization.
The Global Fair & Festival has been designed to share with the world Incheon's accomplishments and developments. Aiming to become a global economic hub by the year 2020, Incheon will exhibit developments in the Incheon Free Economic Zone (Songdo International City, Yeongjong and Cheongna) as well as urban redevelopment plans for old downtown areas that turned into slums. The Global Fair and Festival will present and exhibit Incheon as a model future city equipped with urban competitiveness, cutting edge technology and energy efficient, environment friendly facilities.
